The Vale was twinned with Barneville-Carteret in June 1989. The idea for that came from former Vale Deputy Dave Fletcher, who had visited the town during a sailing trip, and was well received at the time.
Now, M. Legouet (pictured) has been in touch with the douzaine to see if that link could be reestablished. The suggestion has been briefly considered by douzeniers and will be discussed again on Monday night.
The view is that it would be necessary to have a small committee to organise any twinning and the Constables are asking whether there are any parishioners interested in volunteering to come on to the committee.
Previously, one visit a year has been organised for Barneville Carteret to come to Guernsey and one visit for Vale parishioners to go to France.
Barneville-Carteret itself is a very pleasant family seaside resort with a special setting, a beautiful sandy beach, and a lively fishing and sailing port. It is situated on the west coast of the Cotentin peninsula and there are boat connections to the Channel Islands. It has a population of around 2,000 and an area of just under four square miles, about the same as the Vale.
