UPDATED: Two important diary dates for parishioners

Tue 07 Nov 2023

The dates for two significant parish events have been published – the annual Service of Remembrance and the deferred election for the election of douzeniers.

The first is the service to be held at the Vale War Memorial on Sunday the 12th and the second is the deferred election for douzeniers, to be held the following Wednesday, the 15th.

An official invitation to all parishioners to attend the Service of Remembrance was published in the Guernsey Press yesterday and the solemn act of remembrance for all those who fell in the two World Wars starts at 10am and will be led by Vale Rector, the Rev Bev Herve (pictured).

It will be her first Remembrance Service for the parish, having been appointed to the Crown living of St Michel Du Valle at the beginning of the year.

It was also the first appointment to a Crown living in Guernsey by His Majesty The King and before her ordination as a deacon in June 2019 by the Archbishop of Canterbury and as a priest in September 2020 by the Right Reverend Trevor Willmott, Mrs Hervé was a Registered General Nurse.

Election
The other date of note is the deferred election for douzenier. With six candidates for four seats, a request for a secret ballot means that the election will be held on the 15th, with electors able to cast their votes at the Vale Douzaine Room from 8am until 8pm.

It is expected that the results will be available later the same evening. More information about the election was published today in La Gazette Officielle in the Guernsey Press and the official notice is reproduced below.

More details about the candidates and their views have been published by the group Women in Public Life on a special voter information hub, which is available by clicking the image below:
