Events held in the Vale to celebrate Liberation Day were declared a success by Junior Constable Bill Cohu, who said the tea party for more senior parish residents to see the cavalcade as it passed the Douzaine Room was the best yet.

A reminder that a special Liberation Exhibition with a unique Vale emphasis opens today at the parish douzaine room. Doors open at 10am and the display, specially curated by Douzenier Victoria Robinson, tells the story of various aspects of life under occupied rule when the German forces controlled the island.

Dog-fouling has long been an issue in the Bailiwick and certainly in our Parish. Last year the Vale Commons Council took part in a study, over a 30 day period, to determine the extent of dog fouling on the Common. This year, your Douzaine have decided to support a similar parish study.

A special exhibition based on the German Occupation and its effects in the parish of the Vale is being held over the Liberation Day weekend and features extensive material from private collections.

Plans are well under way for a joint parish celebration for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The Vale and St Sampson parishes are holding a joint celebration for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Friday 3rd June from 11am-6pm at L’Islet Common. All islanders are invited to enter the following two competitions which will be judged on the day.

Details have been released about how Liberation Day will be marked by the Vale this year, with the Education, Sport & Culture Committee deciding not to hold centralised celebrations and instead leave it to the parishes.

Proposals from the Channel Islands Co-operative Society finally to develop Leale's Yard have been welcomed by Vale Senior Constable Richard Leale as very positive and well thought-out. A formal application for a £200m scheme to build more than 300 affordable homes, a new supermarket and provide 300 car parking spaces go to Planners today.

An announcement which could finally see development starting at the Leale's Yard site off the Bridge is expected this week, it has been confirmed. The Channel Islands Co-op has told the States that an application for development there is to be submitted shortly.

Two significant developments affecting the Vale parochial cemetery were approved at this week's parish meeting. The first was managing part of the area in a more environmentally-friendly manner. The other affects the cost of using the cemetery.
