'Pay as you throw' waste charges coming soon

Mon 14 Jan 2019

It's Monday, so your usual 'bin night' reminder is below.

First, however, all households should have received an explanatory leaflet advising that 'pay as you throw' waste charges come into effect from 3 February and explaining how the new system will work.

The relevant part is pictured here and indicates that special stickers have to be bought from local retailers - either £2.50 or £1.40 for smaller 50 litre bags - to cover the cost of disposing of residual waste.

The States have also warned that people who deliberately and persistently break the rules face a fine of £60 and this includes 'contaminating' the blue recycling bags with food waste to try to avoid the so-called black bag charges.

However, this warning isn't meant to put parishioners off recycling because in the first instance anyone slipping up would simply be advised of the mistake. Details of how to get further information are given below.

Which brings us on to this week's recycling bags and... it's blue for plastics and cans plus glass please.
