...glass for recycling this week please as the island continues to get to grips with the new system of disposing of rubbish and increasing what households recycle.

The gales last week gave the new containers a test but States of Guernsey recycling officer Tina Norman-Ross, pictured, said most households including those in the Vale found ways of securing their food caddies. As a result, only a few went missing. 

If you are thinking of using a rock or some other heavy weight to stop the caddy from blowing away, however, please place it on the lid, not inside the container, to weight it down.

If it's inside, said Ms Norman-Ross, the risk is that it will simply be tipped into the refuse truck.
