Bad case of fly tipping at beauty spot reported

Sat 12 Oct 2019

A bad case of fly tipping has occurred at at a well known Vale beauty spot and has been reported to the police for investigation and action.

It appears to have happened earlier today and two one-tonne bags of electrical and other waste has been left at the small car park overlooking Houmet Paradis, the nature reserve opposite Guernsey Sea Farms.

Douzeniers were quickly alerted to the latest case, which has been reported to the police with a request that it be investigated and, if possible, prosecuted.

One of those who saw the tipping said it looked like material generated by a house renovation process and there might be evidence available, potentially leading to identifying those responsible.

The Vale Douzaine takes all such incidents of fly tipping very seriously, not least because of the risk of other "copycat" cases happening.

The Vale's community police officer has been contacted and another douzenier has provided further and fuller information about the tipping directly to officers at Police HQ.

The matter has also been drawn to the attention of the Environment Committee so members can monitor the clean up operation.

  • If anyone has any information about this matter they are urged to contact Guernsey Police on 725111.
