The dates for two significant parish events have been published – the annual Service of Remembrance and the deferred election for the election of douzeniers.

A contested election will be held in the Vale next week as six candidates have come forward for the four seats that are up for re-election on the douzaine.

Details of the forthcoming parish meeting have been published in La Gazette Officielle and the date of this year's is Wednesday 1 November. The main business is for the election of parochial officials.

A court hearing scheduled for Monday to decide whether Hougue Jehannet, the road behind the power station, should close permanently has been delayed, the Vale Douzaine has been told.

Citizen action has been taken to try to make a dangerous corner at Bordeaux Harbour safer after one pedestrian said they literally had to leap for their life to avoid being struck by a vehicle hugging the bend. A gift of land to the National Trust of Guernsey by two unnamed brothers is expected to lead to the creation of a new nature reserve in the north of the island. The area, by the former Guernsey Press firework store near Baie de la Jaonneuse, extends to Creve Coeur, which the trust already owns.

Vale parishioners are being asked for their views on the parish officially twinning with the French town of Barnville-Carteret. This follows an approach by the Mayor, David Legouet, who has raised the possibility of re-establishing the links that used to exist between the two communities.
