Citizen action has been taken to try to make a dangerous corner at Bordeaux Harbour safer after one pedestrian said they literally had to leap for their life to avoid being struck by a vehicle hugging the bend. Despite parish pleas for action, the authorities have refused mitigating measures – so someone has taken matters into their own hands.

A gift of land to the National Trust of Guernsey by two unnamed brothers is expected to lead to the creation of a new nature reserve in the north of the island. The area, by the former Guernsey Press firework store near Baie de la Jaonneuse, extends to Creve Coeur, which the trust already owns.

Vale parishioners are being asked for their views on the parish officially twinning with the French town of Barnville-Carteret. This follows an approach by the Mayor, David Legouet, who has raised the possibility of re-establishing the links that used to exist between the two communities.

Dog owners and walkers have been urged to make sure their animals are under control and supervised at all times following complaints of animals causing a nuisance at Les Amarreurs and fouling the popular area, which also has a public playground for children.

Owners of properties with hedges or streams are being reminded that the deadline for cutting and cleaning them is the end of the month and that inspections will start immediately after the 30th. Official notices have been published by the States Trading Supervisory Board, acting as Central Streams Committee, to give notice of this.

Work to repair some coastal defences at Petils Bay at Bordeaux have started this week, the States Environment Committee has said. It is part of an ongoing programme of works to support, preserve and maintain Guernsey's coastal infrastructure.
