Father's Day treat planned for L'Ancresse

Sat 02 Jun 2018

NEW L’Ancresse East kiosk tenant Sandy Brassell is going the whole hog for Father’s Day on 17 June.

She’s hosting a family-friendly hog roast outside the kiosk starting at 2pm, with the hog ready to carve at around 4pm and acoustic music from the Space Pirates of Rocquaine’s Mark Guppy, and Carmen Tippett on vocals.

Encouraged by the success of her late May bank holiday roast, Sandy has enlisted the help of Country Butchers, who will be supplying the hog, the spit and the expertise – a well-roasted hog revolves for around seven hours.

‘A filled bap and salad from our help-yourself bar will cost £5,’ she says, adding that although the kiosk is unlicensed, people can bring their own bottles. ‘We’re not averse to people cracking one open - especially if they bring a spare glass,’ she jokes, adding that the kiosk’s usual menu will also be on offer.

It’s all about creating a relaxed atmosphere, and with low tide around 4.30pm, there will be acres of sand for families to enjoy.

‘We’re aiming for a chilled afternoon,’ says Sandy, who took over the kiosk at Easter having loved it since she was a child.

Despite the season having barely warmed up, business has generally been good, she reports: ‘We ran out of ice-cream cones one day last week.’
